World Vision 40 Hour Challenge
What are we doing?
Our goal is to spend 40 hours in the life of someone in poverty in the Solomon Islands and around the world by going through the same hardships that they would face on a day-to-day basis. Our aim was to make it as challenging as possible to emulate the conditions that Solomon Islanders experience every day. These challenges included staying off any electrical equipment or devices for 40 hours, including lights, cookers, heaters, and clocks/watches, not using furniture, including beds, eating one small meal a day, spending the maximum amount of time that we could outside in the elements, and limiting water consumption by having to run a distance of 4 km for one cup of water. We hope that this experience will help us to develop an increased sense of empathy for those who are not as well off as us and a greater appreciation for what we have.
