They won't let me say savoury cupcakes, first 4 letters are apparently an inappropriate word. My oven was very tired.

FIlm 15/40 Grease (40 films within 40 days)

Tuesday 24th Jun
GREASE LIGHTNING, GOOO GREASE LIGHTNING!!
Grease is such a classic musical, its so happy and fun, full of quirky characters. Don't get me started on Kenickie.... kekekekkekekek

The songs were pretty nice, my favourties would probably be Sandra Dee and Grease lightning. They were catchy and brought so much life into the characters! For the time it was filmed in, everything was so creative with the colours, respectfully keeping focus on the storyline other than minor details. My favourite scene, albeit how short it was, was when Kenickie asked Zuko to be his second to which they started to hug each other, only to turn away and flamboyantly start combing their hair. That's literally me lol, the bond between them was so cute through the movie.

The MC, Sandra, is a bit blank in my opinion, if there was any girl who carried Grease it would be my girl Rizzo. She actually had personality and had understandable actions, wouldn't say shes mean, I'd say fierce (I love her).

My friend from Thailand (Praew I miss u dawg) LOVEEESSS Grease, and she has impeccable taste in musicals so you can trust that Grease is a musical everyone should see once in their life.

8.5/10

FIlm 14/40 The Notebook (40 films within 40 days)

Thursday 19th Jun
I forced my friend to watch it just so she could bawl her eyes out. It was a really sweet movie with characters you could reason with. The way the story unfolded was unique, however it was a bit predictable yet serves its purpose of being a bit cliche.

The notebook teaches you life lessons about romance and the restrictions of a poor society, giving us a very inspirational take away of romance bearing no bounds.

8/10 tear jerkers :)

FIlm 13/40 Perks Of Being A Wallflower (40 films)

Sunday 15th Jun
nah that was messed up. i see why people associate  this movie with DPS, it has a similar feel just more modern and centred on one person.

This film was so endearing and the characters were totally relatable. The screenplay flows so seamlessly intertwining the monologues and the narrative beautifully that neither seemed out of place. And for once the monologues felt necessary and had an important role to play, a role which expositions the state of Charlie’s mind and his inexpressive self.
Also is Mr. Anderson not Todd Anderson- like he whipped out WALDEN and said it's his childhoon favourite, tell me they aren't the same people lol.

Overall 7/10

FIlm 12/40 Hidden Figures (40 films within 40 days)

Thursday 12th Jun
With historical accuracy, Hidden Figures serves the great women justice, touching my soul with a perfectly heartfelt story. As expected, the acting is phenomenal! I was staring at the screen like I had 2 braincells whilst both women delivered their speech to the judge, and to the workers, the emotion packed into each scene is more than enough to move a generation. The pacing kept you hooked every minute without being too fast or slow, and each character got their respective screen time. Being based off a true story this is one of the most inspirational movies of the 20th century for not just women, but for all.

Acting 10/10, visuals 9/10, storyline 10/10, script 10/10
overall 9.7/10

FIlm 11/40 Little Miss Sunshine (40 films within 40 days)

Tuesday 10th Jun
a family loaded with quirky, colorful characters piles into an old van and road trips to california for little olive to compete in a beauty pageant. i didn't expect this movie to be so impactful to the wider audience. it's simply portrayed as a comedy yet holds great underlying messages about self-love. i'm particularly fond of dwayne's character and his silent protest (him being mute for months). The streak is broken with his first words in the entire movie to be a massive f-bomb running down a hill upon finding out he can't pursue his only dream; becoming a fighter jet pilot. that part was a knife to the stomach albeit the humourous lining, but when you think about how sad it is for your whole life's dream to be thrown away for such a tiny reason (he's colourblind and therefore can't fly jets) it's not so funny. Thankfully the director gave him justice towards the end of the movie, turning his despair into a piviot point in his angsty personallity.

Enough about Dwayne though, the rest of the movie was entertaining and witty, if you love film essays you'd kiss this movie on the cheek.
Acting 10/10 (Abigail!), Visuals 8/10, storyline 8/10, script 10/10
Overall 8/10

FIlm 10/40 Mean Girls (40 films within 40 days)

Tuesday 10th Jun
Nobody talks about how well written Mean Girls is. It's a coming-of-age comfort movie to many, delivering us crude comedy all the girlies can relate to. I've fallen victim to watching Mean Girls more than 100 times, the humour never fails to be charming, witty, and creative. What I think captivates me the most is how the plastics are actually loveable despite their toxic nature.

Regina George serves true Y2K.
Acting 10/10, Visuals 8/10, Storyline 9/10, script 10/10
Overall 9/10

FIlm 9/40 Puss And Boots The Last Wish (40 films within 40 days)

Tuesday 10th Jun
(requested)
wow! absolute banger, everyone can thank spiderverse for influencing the style which works so well for animals. what i really enjoyed is the characters which were so complete and beautifully written- we see villians that fall onto a grey area making it easy to sympathize with each of the many characters (not big jack horner but thats his whole comedic premise), and thankfully does not clutter the movie. can i say that death/the wolf is so freaking cool? His whistle sent chills down my spine, if I could whistle I'd never shut up about it.

Back to the animation. Lovely visuals, I think a noticeable thing was the frame rate lowering every fight scene SOOOOO SICK YEAH. Story was amazing too, very well rounded with little to no plot holes. For a kids movie about a cat with shoes, it did not have to go so hard.

Characters 10/10, Visuals 10/10, Storyline 9/10, script 9/10
Overall 9.5/10.

FIlm 8/40 Me Before you (40 films within 40 days)

Tuesday 10th Jun
it was sweet and I did like the bittersweet ending, however I was expecting more of a slow burn romance like it's adverstised. instead they moved sort of fast in the start with William suddenly switching up and deciding to conversate with Lou. I guess thats my only protruding issue.

There isn't much to say about this movie, it isn't something I'd remember.
Acting 7/10 (sorry Lou), visuals 6/10, storyline 7/10, script 6/10
Overall 6.5/10

FIlm 7/40 The Menu (40 films within 40 days)

Tuesday 10th Jun
i'm surprised this film didn't involve cannibalism at all.
I'm immediately hooked by Margot's character, how she seems so unintrested in the start of the movie, lacking behind snobby millionaires who act like they're the smartest one in the room. In the end she uses that to her advantage, the director was able to give such a chaotic script a smooth transition into each part- seeing Margot's growth in every escalating experience Chef throws at her.

It was compelling to see what the antagonist had in store next. Also justice for Chef's servant, she deserved better.

Acting 9/10, Visuals 8/10, storyline 8/10, script 8/10
Overall 8/10.

FIlm 6/40 Wish (40 films within 40 days)

Tuesday 10th Jun
yeah, i WISH it was better. there are so many things wrong with the movie- first of all, the animation is so disapointing considering this is Disney's 100 year anniversary. I get that they tried to do 2D but... in a 3D style? What??? Either way it turned out looking raw like an animation student turned in an unfinished late submission.
Next is the classic "dorky" character of the main character (already so forgettable I forgot her name), she is like a copy and paste of every princess that just wants to do good- the only princess that can pull that off is Anna from Frozen which Disney wishes she was. Anyways the storyline was so bland and predictable, I thought it was going to be one of those movies where you like the villian more than the MC but bro he was so BUNS. No real motive just because hes 'selfish' yada yada, major snooze fest. Did I mention the songs? Literally can't remember a single one.

I could eat alphabet soup and vomit out a better storyline than Wish.

Characters 4/10, storyline 3/10, script 3/10, animation 5/10.
Overall 2/10.

FIlm 5/40 Wonka(40 films within 40 days)

Tuesday 10th Jun
NOOODLEE NOOODLE APPLE STRUDELLL, SOME PEOPLE DON'T AND SOME PEEEOPLLE DOOOODDLE.
Fire song, and damn I love the visuals. I was a bit hesitant upon hearing Timothe was going to play Wonka when it first came out as nobody could top Johnny Depp in the 2005 film but I'm happy to say he killed that.

For what it is, its pretty nice. I can see it being someone's comfort movie.
Acting 9/10, visuals 10/10, storyline 8/10, script 7/10.
Overall 7/10

FIlm 4/40 Once Upon A Time In Hollywood (40 films within 40 days)

Monday 9th Jun

Tonally alien from most of Tarantino's other works, Once Upon a Time in Hollywood plays out more like a loosely connected series of vignettes rather than a flowing narrative. Unfortunately, unlike something like Pulp Fiction, where every segment intersects in some way while the film remains entertaining throughout, this movie feels much less focused and has largely underdeveloped themes and character motivations.

Sharon Tate has nothing to do the entire movie, Cliff is difficult to sympathize with for a number of reasons, and Rick Dalton, despite having a compelling storyline, still feels largely unfocused on for a good chunk of the movie. I always wondered why the description of this movie never really focused on the hippies which was like- a MASSIVE part. Might as well make them the MC.

I think the cast saved it.

Acting 10/10, visuals 8/10, storyline 6/10, script 7/10.

Overall 6.8/10

FIlm 3/40 Pulp Fiction (40 films within 40 days)

Monday 9th Jun
One of Tarantino's most critically acclaimed films about a burger-loving hitman, his philosophical partner, a washed up boxer, and a drug-addicted gangster's wife. Tarantino makes their stories collide while sticking true to their character and giving them each respectful dives into their backstory. I heard that Tarantino based these characters on real people- the two hitmen being his bullies and the gangster's wife being his school crush. He must have great memory.

I'm gonna be so honest when I say its not his best work. Maybe I'm more for a smoother story with 1-2 fixed motives, I felt like the movie jumped from one character arch to another in a slightly choppy manner. Don't get me wrong, it each minute kept you on your feet but in the end it lacked the sort of dept I yearn for in film.

Acting 10/10, visuals 8/10, storyline 6/10, script 9/10.
Overall 7.5/10

FIlm 2/40 Spree (40 films within 40 days)

Monday 9th Jun
honestly, i only watched it because it's joe kerry but am i disapointed? nah, not really. i didn't have super high expectations as the hype around it was low, after rewatching it i still found it entertaining! kurt (mc) takes you on a journey where he goes on a k*lling spree as a live streaming uber driver- why? for fame! It's the one thing he wants and I must say it says a lot about our modern day society. Are we too focused on what the media thinks of us? Is there an unspoken yet undeniable sense of ego when we get praised online? I sat there and thought about it for a hot minute. Needless to say it was a pretty chilling movie, plus Joe Kerry does an amazing job at making a villian likeable.

Acting 9/10, visuals 6/10, storyline 8/10, script 7/10.
Overall 6.5/10

FIlm 1/40 Jojo Rabbit (40 films within 40 days)

Monday 9th Jun
Starting off strong with jojo rabbit by kiwi director Taika waititi! this movie is the pinnacle of modern day dark comedy, handling a sensitive topic extremely well with such passion and heat it can't help but leave a lasting impact while the credits roll. The comedy mostly worked for me, I found myself laughing at each joke only to be hit with a fat brick of that shoe scene (don't hurt me again like that bro). It is something that shouldn't work, yet Taika miraculously does the impossible. Through reseach i've found that many may disagree, calling it insensitive and blind to portray n*zis in a light-hearted spotlight-- however, Jojo rabbit isn't a movie about the holocaust. It isn't about the many atrocities committed by the party either. It is simply about one little boy's journey to reject evil and allow love to triumph over hatred. And to say it succeeds would be an understatement.

Acting 9.5/10, visuals/colouring 10/10, storyline 10/10, script 10/10.
Overall 9.8/10.
