Iron Duke Sea Scouts

World Vision 40 Hour Challenge

We did it!

A team of Venturers from Iron Duke Sea Scouts camped on Mānuka / Haulashore Island in support of the World Vision 40 Hour Challenge. They did without phones, watches, heaters, and comfortable beds in the frost. The only cameras were with the Adults and one Venturer making a documentary about the weekend for a school project.
But instead of sitting around they prepared a flagpole and hosted two of our "old" Venturers who came over to the island with family to be presented with their King's Scout Award pins.
Then they moved on to activities for their Global Citizen badge. They chatted happily about how people would ideally get along, then grappled with the uncomfortable issues of discrimination and the targeting of minorities.
After a frosty start Sunday included a game stretching over the whole island where the global economy played out and showed that those who start out with the natural resources (or lollies) don't always benefit from them once richer nations get involved.
Then we packed up and rowed home in the sunshine.
The fundraising effort is still ongoing. If you think you could contribute please head to their page and help turn their weekend on a frosty island into practical help for people in the Solomon Islands

World Vision 40 Hour Challenge

We're doing the World Vision 40 Hour Challenge to provide kids with food for today, and a future for tomorrow.

In the Pacific region, 1 in 6 kids is living in severe food poverty. Together, we can change that. I'm raising funds to help families farm climate-smart crops and plant mangroves so they can feed their children in a changing climate.

Please donate now to help kids in the Pacific get enough food to grow up healthy and strong. 40 hours? Challenge accepted!

We plan to spend 40 hours on Haulashore Island in Nelson Haven with as little technology as possible (only taking what we need for safety and to record the time for you at home).
