Divya's 40 Hour Challenge
Have you ever wondered how lucky we are to live in a nice house, with unlimited food, running water, able to go anywhere in a car, attending great schools, and able to access anything online?
Well for this 40 Hour Challenge, I'll be attempting to (individually) raise $750 and with my teammate a total of $1800 for kids in the Solomon Islands living in poverty - they don't have access to any of the resources I mentioned above; but with every donation, we can work together to help them grow up healthy and strong.
For 40 Hours, I'll be challenging myself to take a walk in their shoes, and participate in activities to make a difference:
1. Limited Resources:
- Food: I'll have 4 serves of porridge to last the whole 40 hours
- Transport: I will transport myself by means of either bike or walking - no cars
- Clothing: I'll only have access to 10 clothing garments (and it's winter)
- Water: 4 litres of water to drink for 40 hours
2. 40 Hours Outside - the entire time, I will be outside. My shelter will be a tent and sleeping bag, and I'm only allowed inside to use the toilet. This means I won't be able to use buses or anything and I'll have to cook all my food outside on a camp stove. I will be with my friend Hera in a tent.
3. $40 and 40 Trees - Before the 40 Hours starts, I'll prepare some products to sell, like cookies, lolly mixes and sausage sizzle, and then during the time, I'll sell the items in attempt to raise a minimum of $40 which will go towards our pages, getting us closer to our goal of $750.
Also, I'll plant at least 40 trees/seedlings to help make a positive impact on climate change, and when these seedlings get big enough, they'll go into the red zone.
4. Independent - For the whole 40 Hours, I (besides being with my friend) will be independent. This means I will not rely on my parents to provide for me, but rather do things for myself; like getting from A to B, cooking meals, and pitching my tent.
5. No luxuries - I will not have access to the luxuries we take for granted daily, including:
- No social media
- No products (only a toothbrush, not even a hairbrush). While many have a full skincare routine daily, I'll be limiting mine to a two minute toothbrush.
Please, as you're eating a tasty dinner tonight, take a moment to spare a thought for those whose stomachs are rumbling. Surely you can at least donate the cost of something as small as your sesame seeds ($7) to help provide these kids with a smile and full belly, because every cent truly counts to making this world - our world - a better place.
Your help means means everything, to these children in the Islands and to me for your support.
Thanks a million,
Divya :)
