World Vision 40 Hour Challenge

World Vision 40 Hour Challenge - 200km in 40 hours

I plan on cycling 200km in 40hrs on the 20-21st of June.

The money for this fundraiser goes to families in the Solomon islands - funding crops, agriculture training, ecosystem protection and food security.

The Solomon islands are receiving the consequences of climate change and global warming more than most countries, making them one of the most vulnerable nations in the world.

The Solomon islands are currently facing:

Loss of land,

Freshwater security,

Agriculture failure,

Ocean acidification,

and extreme weather.

I plan on splitting my 200km goal into 2 parts of 100km in 2 days.

Note: If the weather does not hold up on the scheduled date, the event will take place on the next good-weather weekend 👍

My Updates

World Vision 40 Hour Challenge - 200km in 40 hours

Sunday 21st Jun

Challenge update!

Yesterday was the first day of my 200 km cycling challenge for World Vision. I set off from Mount Maunganui, rode through Papamoa, down to Paengaroa, back through the Mount, across the harbour bridge, through Tauranga and out towards Tauriko.

The ride itself went well. I tested my nutrition, hydration, equipment and route planning, and before I knew it I had already completed 80 km.

Unfortunately, the weather forecast was predicting rain for today, which would have made completing the full challenge much more difficult and less enjoyable. After 80 km, I made the decision to complete the rest of the event in a better weather window.

The funny part? Today has turned out to be not so bad after all!

While I didn't complete the full 200 km this weekend, yesterday was far from wasted. I learned a huge amount about pacing, nutrition, equipment, and route planning, and I'm feeling much more confident about the rest of the event.

A huge thank you to everyone who has donated so far. Your support has helped me raise over $570 for World Vision, which is incredible. I'll be back soon to take on the rest of the challenge.

Stay tuned!

World Vision 40 Hour Challenge - 200km in 40 hours

Wednesday 17th Jun
200km in 40 hours is now 3 days away.

Over the past few weeks I've been training, planning routes, testing gear, and getting Die Wunderbar Maschine (the bike)  prepared for the challenge.

So far we have raised $577 for World Vision, which is amazing. Big thanks to everyone who has donated and supported the challenge.

The goal is to cycle 200km in 40 hours this weekend, but if the weather does not pan out, the event will be pushed out to the next fine weekend.

If you would like to support the fundraiser, or simply share it with others, I'd be very grateful.

Thank you everyone for your support so far.

Bike cleaned and ready, route planned. 4 days until I attempt 200km in 40 hours

Weather looking marginal at the moment, will see what happens closer to the date, still plenty of time for it to improve 👍
